The first and most important step is calling in a technician ASAP. And, if you are able to safely, you may want to shut off water to the tank so that the leakage cannot get any worse and do damage to your home.

Replace That Older Water Heater before It Floods Your Basement

Sometimes, you can tell if your water heater is past its prime. It may have broken down completely or, unfortunately, flooded your basement or another area of the home. Other times, it’s not so easy to tell a water heater is in trouble. We always recommend that you replace your water heater as early as possible, to avoid ending up with a shallow swimming pool in your basement.
