Heed These Signs You Need Plumbing Work

plumber-tightening-under-sink-pipe-with-wrenchPlumbing problems are one of those things that can be really hard to detect without the right professional equipment and experience. Most of your plumbing system is hidden from view, right? The problems that typically afflict it can be very subtle and not make themselves known until they are emergencies.

For this reason, we recommend scheduling preventive maintenance for your plumbing system on at least an annual basis. It’s also a good idea to familiarize yourself with the warning signs that your plumbing system is struggling. On the rare chance that a problem happens between maintenance sessions, you’ll be able to detect it quickly so you can call us for prompt repairs. Read on as we uncover some of the symptoms of plumbing problems, and give us a call when you notice any of them.

Decline in Water Pressure

A drop in your home’s water pressure is never a good sign. It may mean a variety of things, depending on how severe the drop is as well as how quickly the water pressure declines. Generally speaking, a drop in water pressure indicates that you either have a leak or a blockage somewhere in the plumbing system.

A slow loss of water pressure over time means there is a growing leak or blockage, such as with limescale buildup. A sudden drop in water pressure, though, may mean that you have a pipe rupture, which would qualify as an emergency. Regardless, be sure to call our plumbers as soon as you notice any kind of water pressure decline.

Unusually Expensive Water Bills

Do you keep a close eye on your water bills each month? If not, you should probably take a look. If they start to rise unexpectedly, it’s a sign of a problem. Water bills that seem to be spiking beyond what’s normal for the amount of water you’re actually using can mean that you have a leak somewhere in the plumbing system.

If your monthly bills seem to indicate that you’re using a lot more water than you actually are, it’s time to call us to have your plumbing system checked out.

A Running Water Meter

One relatively simple way to see if your plumbing system is leaking is to turn off all the plumbing appliances in your home, and then check and see if your water meter is still running. If it is, then it means water is still exiting the system somehow. Unless you have a plumbing appliance on that you forgot about, this is almost certainly indicative of a leak.

Visible Signs of Water Damage

See water puddling up in your yard? Maybe you noticed water stains on the drywall or on your ceiling tiles. These are all signs of a possible leak, and it’s important that you not ignore them. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team, whether you see very clear signs like this or even just suspect that you might have a plumbing leak of some kind.
